Vintage Royal Doulton head character jug, featuring The Vicar of Bray. Designed by Charles Noke and Henry Fenton, manufactured from 1936-1960.

"The Vicar of Bray" is an 18th century satirical song recounting the career of The Vicar of Bray and his contortions of principle in order to retain his ecclesiastic office. This very adaptable parson boasted that he was able to accommodate himself to the religious views of Charles, James, William, Anne and George, and that “whosoever King may reign, he would always be the Vicar of Bray.
