A wonderful duo of antique 1870s framed fashion plates (ORIGINAL fashion plates from an antique publication - not a reproduction).
The larger one (15x12.5) is a Godeys Fashion for March 1869 fashion plate (printed by Kimmel & Forster NY)
The smaller one is a collage (3 different fashion ladies cut out separately and put together).
Fashion plates were hand-colored engravings that appeared in womens magazines. They could be taken to dressmakers for inspiration on latest fashion trends. In the US many of the engravings were copied from plates in French magazines.
